Body: Organ transplantation is a life-saving medical procedure that can improve the quality and length of life for many patients with organ failure. However, there is a huge gap between the demand and supply of donor organs, which has led to the emergence of a global organ trafficking industry that exploits the poor, the vulnerable and the persecuted as a source of organs for wealthy transplant tourists.

One of the most horrific forms of organ trafficking is forced organ harvesting, which is the practice of killing prisoners of conscience and extracting their organs without their consent or knowledge. This is a gross violation of human rights and medical ethics, and constitutes a crime against humanity.

The main perpetrator of forced organ harvesting is China, which has been accused of systematically killing Falun Gong practitioners, Uyghurs, Tibetans and other dissidents for their organs since the late 1990s. According to independent investigations, China performs between 60,000 and 100,000 transplants per year, far exceeding the official number of voluntary donors. China also has a lucrative transplant tourism industry that attracts patients from around the world, who can receive a transplant within weeks or even days of arrival, with no questions asked about the source of the organs.

The evidence of forced organ harvesting in China is overwhelming and undeniable, and has been confirmed by numerous witnesses, survivors, whistleblowers, journalists, researchers, lawyers, doctors and human rights activists. Some of the evidence includes:

  • Phone calls to Chinese hospitals, where doctors admit to using organs from Falun Gong practitioners and other prisoners of conscience

  • Testimonies from former prisoners, who witnessed blood tests, organ examinations and disappearances of fellow inmates

  • Leaked official documents, such as hospital records, transplant registries and government directives, that reveal the scale and scope of the organ harvesting operation

  • Statistical analysis, that shows a discrepancy between the official organ donation and transplantation data and the actual transplant activity and capacity in China

  • Medical reports, that indicate abnormal characteristics of the transplanted organs, such as blood type mismatch, tissue rejection and infection

  • Satellite imagery, that shows the expansion of transplant facilities and the presence of crematoria and security measures near detention centers

  • International investigations, such as the China Tribunal, that have concluded beyond reasonable doubt that forced organ harvesting is occurring in China on a massive scale.

Forced organ harvesting is not only a grave injustice to the victims and their families, but also a threat to the integrity and reputation of the medical profession and the transplant community. It undermines the ethical principles and standards that govern organ donation and transplantation, such as consent, traceability, transparency and accountability. It also poses serious health risks to the recipients of the organs, who may suffer from complications, infections and diseases due to the lack of proper screening and quality control.

As global citizens, we have a moral duty and a legal obligation to expose and stop this atrocity. We cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering of millions of innocent people who are being killed for their organs. We cannot allow this crime to continue in the name of profit, power or convenience. We cannot be complicit in this genocide by silence, ignorance or indifference.

We urge you to join us in raising awareness and taking action to end forced organ harvesting in China and elsewhere. Here are some ways you can help:

  • Educate yourself and others about the issue by reading, watching and sharing credible sources of information

  • Sign petitions and write letters to your government representatives, urging them to condemn and sanction China for its organ harvesting crimes

  • Support and donate to organizations that are working to expose and stop forced organ harvesting, such as Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting and International Coalition to End Transplant Abuse in China

  • Boycott and avoid traveling to China or any other country that is involved in organ trafficking or forced organ harvesting

  • If you or someone you know is considering a transplant, make sure to verify the source and origin of the organ, and reject any organ that comes from an unknown or unethical source

Together, we can make a difference and save lives. Together, we can end this nightmare and restore dignity and justice to humanity.
